Born in October 1951, Jeff was the 3rd of four sons born to Gilbert and Amelia (Millie) Oppenheim. Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Jeff graduated from Northwestern High School and attended the Community College of Baltimore. An avid sportsman, Jeff played baseball in college and even had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved duckpin bowling and bowled in many leagues in Pikesville, including leagues with his younger brother, Alan.
Jeff and Phyllis met at Fairlanes Pikesville in March 1976, when Phyllis was bowling in a triples league on a team with Alan. They quickly became a couple and were married in June 1985. Blessed with two amazing children, Greg and Aly, they enjoyed a wonderful life together that included trips, cruises, holidays with family, and shared many great experiences and adventures.
For many years, Jeff worked at Sandler’s Hardware and later for Duron Paint Company, Channel Home Centers, Home Depot, and Just Cabinets. He was a hard worker and loved by everyone, employers, coworkers, and customers alike. He had incredible talent designing kitchens and even designed the deck on their Florida home.
After retiring from working for several companies in Florida, Jeff found great pleasure just being home, relaxing in his chair and watching sports or listening to his music. A diehard Ravens fan, which is why his children said that he bled purple and black, from late August until January, Jeff’s greatest joy and often frustration was watching the Ravens at a local sports bar together with Greg and Aly.
Jeff deeply loved his family and enjoyed the time spent together. Whether for Friday night/Shabbat dinners with Greg and his new wife, Elian, Aly, and Phyllis or the family Thanksgiving week cruise, the time shared with the family was so important to him. He also loved spending time with Alan and, although distance kept them from frequently seeing each other, they did speak almost every day and found time to be together whenever possible.
